More than 300 people are believed to have drowned after a number of vessels carrying hundreds of migrants capsized off the coast of Libya.
The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) is quoted as reporting between one and three ships sunk on Monday, with strong winds thought to have caused the disaster.
The migration group suggests the migrants were trying to cross from North Africa to Italy.
So far Libyan authorities have recovered around 20 bodies near to where one of the capsized boats was found.
Last year, over 30,000 people are thought to have made the dangerous journey from North Africa to Italy in search of work.
The United Nations claims the migrants are now attempting to make the trip in "ever more unseaworthy vessels".
