The head of the tribe to which Saddam Hussein belonged has been killed in a bomb blast, Iraqi police have said.
Sheik Ali al-Nida was the head of the Bu Nasir tribe, which includes members of Mr Hussein's family.
He was killed when a bomb planted in his car exploded today, reports claim.
A security guard was also killed and three others were seriously injured.
An Iraqi police officer told the Associated Press news agency that Mr al-Nida died after the bomb exploded as he drove through the Wadi Shishain area of Tikrit, roughly 80 miles north of Baghdad.
Members of the Bu Nasir tribe held some of the most important political and security positions in Iraq while Mr Hussein was in power.
