A high-tech train using advanced magnet technology has crashed in northern Germany, leaving as many as 21 people dead.

Police say that so far 15 bodies have been recovered from the Emsland crash-site, near the Dutch border, but six more individuals are feared dead.

Ten people have also been injured following the crash between the driverless Transrapid train and a maintenance vehicle, which occurred at 10:00 local time (09:00 BST).

There is no official word on what events led to the collision, but the crash is more bad news for the maglev train industry, following the break out of a fire on a Transrapid train in Shanghai, China.

The maglev trains are capable of reaching speeds up to 400kmph (280mph), with the German train in today's crash believed to be travelling at 200kmph (120mph).
