Josef Fritzl, the Austrian man who imprisoned his daughter for quarter of a century and fathered seven children by her, reportedly tried to sell the details of her ordeal to the British tabloids.
Fritzl, 73, allegedly asked his business partner to auction the police files of the questioning of Elisabeth, 42, in which she reveals the true horror of her imprisonment.
Under Austrian law, Fritzl's lawyer Rudolf Mayer has access to all court documents, including the police files, and reports claim his defendant is now trying to cash in of the documents in an attempt to pay off his debts.
German magazine Stern reports that while in prison, the 73-year-old tried to sell the transcripts to the British police for 4 million euros (£3.78 million), but editors refused to buy them.
A number of police transcripts have become public, but in general the media have refrained from publishing details of the abuse sustained by Fritzl's children out of consideration for them.
Fritzl has admitted imprisoning his daughter for 24 years and sexually abusing her and is due to go on trial in the spring.
