Four people have been injured after a car bomb attack by Basque separatist group Eta upon Spain's largest airport.
Authorities in Madrid say that Barajas airport's terminal four was evacuated up to an hour before the blast, which occurred at 08:00 local time (09:00 GMT).
Earlier in the day a telephone warning from a man representing Eta said that the attack was going to take place.
Two police officers searching for the vehicle that exploded are among those injured, with none of the injuries sustained said to be serious.
Flights to and from the ultra-modern terminal four have been suspended, although services are running as normal elsewhere in the airport.
The blast represents the end of a nine-month ceasefire and a blow to the peace aspirations of socialist prime minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero.
About 800 people have died as a result of Eta's violent struggle for an autonomous Basque region.
