Tony Snow, who was spokesperson for US president George Bush for over a year and a half, has died of cancer.
Fox News, who Snow worked for as a news anchor, said today that the 53-year-old died after a three-year battle with colon cancer.
The news channel's chairman, Roger Ailes, described Mr Snow as a "renaissance man".
"It's a tremendous loss for us who knew him, but it's also a loss for the country," he added.
Mr Snow worked for Fox News between 1996 and 2006 before he became President Bush's third press secretary.
At the time Mr Bush described him as "a man of courage [and] a man of integrity".
Mr Snow was forced to resign from the position when his cancer recurred and spread to his liver in 2007.
After some time off he worked for CNN as a conservative political correspondent.
Mr Snow is survived by his wife, Jill Ellen Walker, their son Robbie and daughters Kendell and Christie.
