Eight people have died and close to a hundred others suffered injuries after a suicide bomber attacked a train station in Sri Lanka's capital.
Police say a female attacker detonated explosives strapped to her body as a train arrived at a railway platform in Colombo.
A ticket inspector Ravindra Pinto told the BBC: "I was near my counter and I heard a big blast. When I looked behind I saw a policeman bleeding. As I took him and rushed out, I saw many men and women on the ground."
Yesterday, 18 people lost their lives after a bomb exploded in the town of Dambulla. The government has blamed both attacks on the Tamil Tigers rebel group amid fears that further attacks will take place as the country prepares to mark the 60th anniversary of independence from Britain.
The increased violence in the island nation comes after the government called off a ceasefire with the Tigers on January 16th.
The Tigers have fought to create an independent state in the island's north and east since 1983 and were also blamed for a roadside bomb that killed 27 people in the central town of Buttala three weeks ago.
