Ten evacuees from the Chinese earthquake region of Sichuan were involved in a helicopter crash Saturday evening.
A Russian-built helicopter, and its four crew, came down in Wenchuan after air-lifting the ten patients out of the quake area, which is still being subjected to aftershocks.
The weather conditions were foggy and the helicopter was being buffeted by turbulence before it came down en-route to a medical facility. A search for survivors is under way.
The latest estimates from the May 12th earthquake is that 69,000 people have been confirmed as dead with 18,000 people listed as still missing.
Enquiries into the amount of public buildings, such as schools, which have collapsed during the tremors, will also establish whether construction regulations were adhered to.
The Chinese government are offering tax breaks to companies and individuals who contribute financial aid to the Sichuan charity appeals. Donations of up to 20 per cent of income will be tax-deductible from the 2009 revenue statements, or if channelled through official government disaster funds, all amounts will be accounted for.
