A British soldier has been killed in an explosion in Helmand, southern Afghanistan.
The unnamed soldier, belonged to the 2nd Battalion Parachute Regiment, which is conducting patrols in the former Taliban stronghold. Another soldier Private Jason Lee Rawstron, from the same battalion died in a gun-battle with insurgents on Friday.
The ministry of defence said the soldier was on a routine patrol in the Kajaki area of Helmand province at the time of the explosion. It added that it was investigating the cause of the blast.
Task force Helmand spokesman Col Reynolds said: "The life of a British paratrooper can never be replaced, but it can be immortalised.
"His participation in this tour of Helmand will be remembered in regimental history as a tribute to his courage and as an honour to his family."
On Wednesday, a member of the Royal Logistic Corps, died in operations to clear an improvised explosive device.
The three deaths in the last five days have taken the toll of British soldiers killed in operations in Afghanistan to 120.
