Indonesian authorities have tightened security across the popular tourist destination of Bali ahead of the execution of three men convicted over their involvement in the bombings of 2002.
Three men, Imam Samudra, 38, 47-year-old Amrozi [surname?] and his brother Mukhlas, 48, were given the death penalty for their role in the nightclub bombings in the Indonesian capital that killed 202 people.
The AFP news agency has cited unnamed sources as saying that the three men had been kept in isolation from each other and that a letter authorising their execution had been delivered.
Security has been increased around the city over fears of a backlash against the executions with more police deployed around embassies and popular tourist spots.
All executions in the country are done by firing squad and preparations are also being made for a swift burial in keeping with the Muslim tradition. A makeshift helipad has been prepared near the homes of Amrozi and Mukhlas in the Tenggulun village in East Java.
Authorities in the country have refused to announce an exact date for the executions due to fears of protests from militant activists.
