A British father and his five-year-old son have drowned in Spain, the Foreign Office has confirmed.

It is reported that the man was taking pictures of his sons at the coast of Tossa de Mar, north of Barcelona, when he and the five-year-old were swept into the sea at noon local time.

The Foreign Office is awaiting further details but next of kin have been informed of the deaths.

"Consulate officials are on their way to the scene and will give any assistance they can," a spokesman said.

The news comes a month after three Britons were drowned off the coast of Portugal while trying to save their children.
