Italian climber who survived an avalanche on K2 mountain airlifted to safety

An Italian climber who survived an avalanche on the K2 mountain, which killed 11 people, has been airlifted to safety.

The climber, identified as Marco Confortola, has been taken to a military hospital in Skardu, Pakistan.

Eleven climbers, including, three South Koreans, two Nepalese, two Pakistanis, a Serbian, an Irishman, a Norwegian and a Frenchman, were killed as they made their way down K2, the world's second highest mountain, on Friday.

Yesterday, two Dutch climbers, Wilco Van Rooijen and Cas van de Gevel, were rescued from the mountain

The Dutchmen are said to be suffering from severe frost bite and are "not out of danger yet", reports claim.
