US families of the Lockerbie bombing have been fully compensated
The families of 180 Americans killed in the Lockerbie bombing in 1988 say they have now received full compensation from Libya.

More than 270 people died when the Pan Am flight 103, travelling from London to New York exploded over the Scottish town.

Libya paid $1.8 billion (£1.2 billion) in October into a fund to compensate victims of the bombing and other attacks.

Kara Weipz, whose brother was killed on the Pan Am flight said: "Today is historic because Libya has finally fulfilled 100 per cent justice to the Pan Am 103 families.

"We are now free to close this chapter in our nightmare."

Earlier this week US president George Bush said a "painful chapter" between America and Libya was closing.
