At least two people have been killed and 24 injured after fighting broke out between rival Lebanese fractions in the city of Tripoli.
Supporters of the country's ruling majority and the Hezbollah-led opposition engaged in heavy fighting today, resulting in the Lebanese army retreating from the region.
The clashes began in the early hours of Sunday morning in the Bab al-Tabbaneh and Jabal Mohsen sectors of the northern city.
The majority of the wounded were taken to the Islamic hospital of Tripoli where they are receiving treatment.
The violence comes as prime minister Fouad Siniora tries to form a government of national unity following a deal to end fighting in the country which threatened civil war.
The deal led to Michel Sleiman being installed as Lebanon's new president.
