The Islamic group claimed responsibility for the bombings in Jaipur

A previously unknown Islamic militant group has claimed responsibility for bombings in the Indian city of Jaipur which killed around 60 people earlier this week.

Local police have said that the group, Indian Mujahadeen, claimed responsibility during a number of videos and emails sent to Indian television stations and the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata party.

Jaipur's chief police officer, Pankal Singh, said that the video clips, showing a bicycle with an alleged bomb strapped to it in a crowded market, were being examined by the police.

Police have also released a sketch of a man in his 20s who is suspected of buying the bicycles which carried the explosives during Tuesday's blast.

Sonia Gandhi the president of the Congress party which heads India's ruling coalition visited Jaipur today with home minister Shivraj Patil.

Mr Patil condemned the bombings and said "the guilty will be brought to justice".

Reports claim that at least 200 people were injured in the blast and a curfew has been extended for the second day in the old city.End of story
