Democrat presidential candidate Barack Obama has arrived in Iraq on the second leg of his foreign tour.
Mr Obama will meet with officials, military leaders and US embassy staff as a member of a Congressional delegation today.
The presumptive Democrat nominee for the White House said recently that he would order a withdrawal of US troops from Iraq within 16 months of taking office if he was elected to be the next president.
In previous speeches he has claimed the war in Iraq has distracted the US from the real war against terrorism
Speaking during a visit to the Afghan capital Kabul yesterday, the Illinois senator claimed that it was Afghanistan that had to be the military's central focus, claiming the fight against the Taliban was "precarious and urgent".
Mr Obama is set to also visit Jordon, Israel, Germany, France and the UK during his trip, a move which is seen by many as an attempt to develop his foreign policy credentials.
