The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has confirmed that a British solider has been killed in an explosion in southern Afghanistan.
The MoD statement said the soldier, from the Queens Royal Lancers Regiment, died this morning after a suspected minestrike hit a vehicle providing security to a resupply convoy returning to Camp Bastion.
The soldier was airlifted to the medical facility at the camp but was declared dead on arrival.
A second soldier was injured in the explosion and is currently receiving treatment.
The MoD confirmed that the soldier's next of kin had been informed and claimed it would be another 24 hours before anymore details are released.
