The all-star cover of REM's Everybody Hurts in aid of the victims of the Haiti earthquake has sold 200,000 copies in just two days, official figures have shown.
The Official Charts Company said the song, organised by Simon Cowell, had already recorded the biggest first week sales of any single since 2000.
"This is a phenomenal achievement," said Martin Talbot, managing director of the Official Charts Company.
"The public are certainly not showing any signs of charity fatigue."
Cowell's REM cover features a host of artists including Alexandra Burke, Cheryl Cole, James Morrison, JLS, Kylie Minogue, Leona Lewis, Michael Buble, Mika, Robbie Williams, Rod Stewart, Susan Boyle and Take That.
More than 200,000 are thought to have died during and in the aftermath of the 7.0 magnitude quake which struck Haiti on January 12th.
