The first bodies recovered from the crash site of the Air France flight AF 477 have arrived in Brazil, the country's air force has confirmed.
The 16 bodies have been taken to the Legal Medical Institute in Recife for official identification with DNA tests also due to take place if necessary.
The Brazilian air force said another 25 bodies had been found and would undergo the same procedure shortly.
Yesterday a French submarine joined the search for the plane's black box recorders and other wreckage from the Air France jet which crashed into the Atlantic Ocean earlier this month.
So far a total of 41 bodies have been discovered since the plane fell off international radar on June 1st and debris has begun to be found 1,000km north-east of the Fernando de Noronha islands.
A total of 228 people are believed to have been travelling on the flight from Rio de Janeiro to Paris.
Latest reports suggest the plane broke up over a number of minutes rather than one catastrophic event.
