Explosive devices have been defused by bomb squads at Mumbai's main railway station, reports have claimed.
According to Indian television channels the bombs could have been planted on the day of terrorist attacks that killed more than 170 people last week.
"This is part of the same consignment which the terrorists had brought on Wednesday night when they were attacking and running helter-skelter, some of the material had been left behind," anti-terrorism police chief KP Raghuvashi is quoted as saying.
Police claim they discovered 8kg of explosives in a bag at Chhatrapati Shivaji station earlier.
Reports suggest that the devices were similar to those found outside the Taj Mahal Palace and Trident-Oberoi hotels and Leopold's café, three of the sites targeted in the terrorist attacks last week.
Maharashtra state chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh had been due to visit the railway station this evening and the discovery of the bag came after US secretary of state Condoleezza Rice arrived in New Delhi to urge India and Pakistan to cooperate in investigating the attacks.
Gunmen attacked seven separate sites in the city of Mumbai last week, killing 172 people and injuring almost 300 more.
