A couple who allegedly passed out from excessive drinking while on holiday in Portugal with their three young children have returned to the UK.

Eamon McGuckin, 34, and Antoinette McGuckin, 32, from Maghera, Northern Ireland, had been due to appear before a Portuguese magistrate on Tuesday.

The couple were taken to hospital on Friday evening after they reportedly collapsed at their Vilamoura hotel.

The children, Adam, one, Amy, two and Aaron, six, were temporarily taken into care after the hotel's staff alerted local police following the incident.

Sky News had quoted a judicial source as claiming it is "very unlikely" that the pair will face charges relating to the neglect of their children.
