Former England rugby supremo Sir Clive Woodward is to take over as director of elite performance at the British Olympic Association (BOA), it has been revealed.
The 2003 Rugby World Cup winner's role will encompass all 35 Olympic sports as Great Britain looks to achieve significant successes at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing before the keenly-awaited London games four years later.
In a statement released by the BOA Sir Clive said: "It is a privilege to be joining the BOA at such an exciting time for British sport.
"I will use my past experiences in high performance sport to assist the 35 Olympic sports achieve their own aspirations, and working in partnership with UK Sport, national governing bodies and performance directors to ensure the performance of Team GB is maximised in the years ahead."
BOA chief executive Simon Clegg hailed the appointment and pointed to the expertise and motivational qualities which he expects Sir Clive to bring to all areas of UK sport.
He explained: "[Sir Clive] will be a huge asset to the organisation - he will challenge our perspective, and his expertise and motivational qualities will ensure our athletes can achieve their very best performances."
Sir Clive's most recent work saw him operating as technical support director at Southampton Football Club, before the two parties parted company soon after chairman Rupert Lowe - who had been instrumental in bringing him to the south coast - stepped down from his own role.
It is anticipated that he will commence his new role at the BOA, which will also see him responsible for Team GB's pre-Beijing Preparation Camp, on September 18th.
