A woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the bodies of two young children were found in a car in Sussex.
Police said the bodies of a boy and a girl, both under the age of five, were found in a car in Heathfield. The children are yet to be formally identified.
The 43-year-old woman arrested in connection with the incident, who has been named locally as Fiona Donnison, was arrested after visiting Heathfield police station just before 11:00 GMT on Wednesday morning to report an incident.
A police statement said she was taken to Eastbourne District general hospital suffering from apparent "self-harm injuries" and was now in a stable condition.
"The woman and the children are known to each other," police confirmed, but it has not yet been established what relationship she had with them.
After she reported the incident, police officers discovered the bodies of the children after forcing entry into a car at around 11:46 GMT.
An investigation is now under way and the area around the scene has been cordoned off.
Wealden district policing commander Chief Inspector Julia Pope, said: "This is a very tragic incident, but I would like to reassure people that it is fully contained and there is no threat to anyone in the area."
