The Williams formula one team has announced that it will be opening a new Wiliams Technology Centre (WTC) in Qatar as a joint venture with the Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP).
The Grove-based team's expansion to the Middle Eastern facility will incorporate brands such as Shell and Microsoft and will help the team with their research, development and commercialisation of new technologies, such as a new racing simulator.
While Williams owner Sir Frank Williams admits that it is out of conventional practice for a team to move some of its activities out of Europe, he believes QSTP will be a productive environment for the squad.
"After detailed consideration, we have decided that this is an opportunity we cannot afford to miss, and we look forward to supporting the future of Williams F1 in part from the development and application of F1-inspired technologies to the wider world," said Williams.
To celebrate the new collaboration, QSTP will feature on the liveries of Nico Rosberg and Kazuki Nakajima's Williams cars in Abu Dhabi this weekend.
