Serena Williams moved into the third round of Wimbledon with a straight sets win over Poland's Urszula Radwanska today.
The 2002 and 2003 champion will now face another former winner at SW19, Amelie Maursemo in the next round after the Frenchwoman beat Spain's Virginia Ruano Pascual.
Williams was not at her best against Radwanska but still did well to get past a rising star in the women's game.
Radwanska won the Wimbledon junior championships last year and showed she is competent on the grass.
However, Williams was able to break the 17-year-old twice in the first set to take a 4-1 lead. Radwanska managed to get a break back but Williams was strong enough to serve out for the set.
The American claimed another break at the start of the second set only for Radwanska to fight back once more. But Williams' superior power was too much for the Pole and the Australian Open champion eventually won 6-4 6-4.
Mauresmo has been out of form this season and was forced to fight back from a set behind against Pascual.
The 2006 champion dominated the final two sets, claiming three breaks in each to win 4-6 6-1 6-1.
Fourth seed Svetlana Kuznetsova played much better in her second round match than she had in her first round encounter and easily saw off Ukrainian Kateryna Bondarenko. The Russian completed victory on Centre Court 6-2 6-3 in just over an hour.
Elsewhere, last year's finalist Marion Bartoli defeated Tatiana Perebiynis 6-2 7-5, while eighth seed Anna Chakvetadze defeated Edina Gallovits 6-4 6-2.
