Danny Williams, the British heavyweight, has hit out at the prospect of a third fight between Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield, claiming it would be a "freak show".

Holyfield revealed to the Guardian that Tyson had approached him over a rematch despite Holyfield being 45 and Tyson 41.

Williams told the BBC: "It would be an insult to everyone's intelligence. Tyson is one of the greatest fighters ever - but he doesn't want to fight any more. It's purely about money."

Tyson has not fought since 2005 when he announced his retirement, saying he no longer has the "fighting guts or the heart anymore".

Holyfield and Tyson last fought in 1997 when Tyson, once one of the most feared men in boxing, was disqualified for biting off part of Holyfield's ear.

Williams himself beat Tyson in 2004 with a fourth round knock-out when the American's career was fading fast and he was battling against bankruptcy.

Londoner Williams continued: "Holyfield is a warrior and still wants to regain the title but Tyson is doing it because he is bankrupt and needs the money. It's a complete joke."

The comments from Holyfield have been met with some scepticism, particularly as the former World Champion is about to launch his new book.
