Wakefield Wildcats have helped set up the Adam Watene Fund in recognition of their prop forward who passed away on Monday.
Watene died after collapsing while lifting weights during a training session with the Wildcats. The 31-year-old left behind a wife and two young children. The Club has worked with Watene's family to create the fund which will help them re-build their lives.
Watene was a highly respected professional who played a big part in the Wildcats Community programmes as well as taking up the role as Deputy Mayor of Wakefield's Consort.
Paying tribute to his player, Wildcats coach John Kear said: "Adam was a leader on and off the pitch for us and we have lost not only a fantastic player but a true gentleman in every sense of the word.
"Adam was very much a family man, and we are immensely sad that his wife Moana has lost a devoted husband and his children their doting father."
The Wildcats are also planning to hold an event which will give fans the chance to pay their respects for Watene. The Cook Islands international spent two seasons with the Wildcats and played 58 games for the club.
