Wigan Warriors have climbed to fourth in Super League after a 38-20 win over Harlequins at the JJB Stadium this evening.

Wigan took the lead after only four minutes when a clever short kick from playmaker Trent Barrett allowed hooker Mickey Higham to burst through the Harlequins defence and cross the try-line. Pat Richards added the extra two points.

The home side dominated possession but failed to create the space to cut open the Harlequins defence.

Quins were back in the game when substitute Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook was on the receiving end of a superb inside ball from Chad Randall and crossed the try-line with almost his first touch of the ball. Henry Paul kicked the conversion to bring his side to level terms.

Three minutes later Harlequins took the lead when Scott Hill slid in a kick towards the try-line and Joe Mbu outpaced the Wigan defence to score they try.

A mistake from Richards then gave the visitors an excellent attacking opportunity from 20 meters out and they took full advantage. Tony Clubb slipped a missed tackle from Harrison Hansen to score. Paul added the extras to make the score 16-6.

Richards made amends for his mistake a few minutes later as he chased down a Thomas Leuluai grubber-kick to score in the corner. His conversion attempt was successful as Wigan trailed 16-12.

Wigan took the lead on the stroke of half-time as Joel Tomkins was on the end of a good Warriors team move to score the try. Richards added the extras to make the score 18-16.

The home side made the points safe with two tries in the first five minutes of the second-half. Mbu spilled the ball straight of the kick-off and Wigan took advantage as they worked the ball to Gareth Hock who crashed over.

Darrell Goulding then scored for Wigan as Barrett found him with a beautiful cut-ball and Goulding had an easy passage to the try-line.

Quins did cross the Wigan try-line again through Clubb, but the Warriors scored two more tries themselves through Goulding and Leuluai.
