Lee Westwood is two strokes off the lead at the halfway stage of the South African Open.
The Englishman carded 67 to lie on ten-under par to lie joint-second behind Michael Lorenzo-Vera.
Lorenzo-Vera, who is chasing his maiden Tour victory, reeled off five birdies in six holes to go round in 65.
Westwood shares second place with four-time champion Ernie Els, fellow South African Charl Schwartzel (65) and Ireland's Damien McGrane (64).
The Worksop golfer, who sunk four birdies, said he is pleased with the way he is finishing the year.
"I just played really solid again. When I missed the green, my short game was really good," the 35-year-old said.
"I've not won this year and it would be nice to end with a victory."
Meanwhile, Els said he was confident of toppling Lorenzo-Vera at the top of the leaderboard.
"We've got two rounds left. If I'm two shots behind with two to play I still have a chance to win, so there's still plenty of golf left," the 39-year-old.
The cut line fell at even-par 144 with 76 players moving on to the weekend. Among those who missed out was defending champion James Kingston.
