West Brom came through the battle of the two Championship sides in tonight's FA Cup third-round replays beating Charlton 4-3 on penalties at the Hawthorns.

Roman Bednar gave the Baggies the opener after 30 minutes as he ushered the ball over the line from close range after Jonathan Greening's deep cross was headed back across goal.

Luke Varney missed a clear opening for the visitors before James Morrison sent a skidding strike into the bottom corner early in the second half.

Darren Ambrose slotted home a loose ball after Dean Kiely had kept out Chris Iwelumo's initial effort to pull one back for Charlton.

But it seemed that his effort may be only a consolation before Chris Dickson grabbed an equaliser late on to send the game into extra-time.

Neither side could conjure a decisive goal in the allotted half-hour as the game came down to spot-kicks.

Varney struck the bar with Charlton's first attempt before Kiely came up with a save to deny Zheng Zhi from the Addicks' penultimate kick and send them out.

Millwall emerged triumphant after meeting fellow League One side Walsall at the New Den and hanging on for a 2-1 victory.

The hosts took the lead through Ben May's pinpoint first-half strike and moved further clear when Gary Alexander slipped the ball home soon after the break.

A deflected volley from Alex Nicholls briefly threatened to halt the Lions' progress but they hung on to book a fourth-round meeting with Coventry.

The surprise of the night came at Gigg Lane where League Two Bury overcame Championship side Norwich 2-1.

Ben Fuchter put the home side in front after 16 minutes before caretaker manager Chris Brass saw Andy Bishop nip in to turn home a second on the hour mark.

Veteran striker Dion Dublin made the last few minutes nerve-racking for the home fans with a tap-in from a Jamie Cureton header, but they ended the 90 minutes celebrating after Gary Doherty spurned a fine chance to level at the death.
