Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger praised both sides after Arsenal's 2-1 victory over Liverpool in the Carling Cup.
Fran Merida's opening goal was cancelled out by Emiliano Insua's dipping half-volley, however Nicklas Bendtner scored the winner after half time, smashing the ball high into the net from a tight angle.
"The quality of the game was outstanding. Both teams played very well and there was very little between the two teams," said Wenger.
"I believe the experience of the two centre-backs was important in vital moments.
"I'm very pleased because we played against a quality side and showed some great football to win tonight.
"Overall I think it was more European quality than Carling Cup really," he added.
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez was disappointed to lose, but was pleased to see summer signing Alberto Aquilani make his debut when he came on for the last 20 minutes.
"It's disappointing to have lost but we saw some quality and it was a good game with chances for both teams," he said.
"Aquilani showed quality - his match fitness is something he can only improve by playing games.
"Hopefully he can have a big impact on our season."
