Virgin Racing's VR-01 has completed its first shakedown at Silverstone's Stowe circuit in the hands of Timo Glock.
Following the online launch of the VR-01 on Wednesday, Glock completed a few cautious exploratory laps in the car before he and team-mate Lucas di Grassi begin a more extensive programme on Friday.
Nick Wirth, Virgin Racing's technical director, said: "After ten challenging months, all the commitment and determination has finally paid off.
"Today was all about those tentative first few steps but the programme really gets underway tomorrow with a full day of on-track evaluation for both Timo and Lucas."
Glock added he is pleased to be back in the cockpit of a formula one car having missed the final two rounds of last season because of injuries he sustained in a high-speed accident at Suzuka.
"It was a fantastic moment for myself and the whole team to see the VR-01 come alive," said Glock.
"It's great to be back in a racing car."
Virgin Racing will make their group test debut with the VR-01 at next week's test in Jerez.
