Queens Park Rangers stunned Aston Villa with a 1-0 win at Villa Park in the third round of the Carling Cup.
The Championship side pulled off a massive upset thanks to a second-half header from Damion Stewart.
Martin O'Neill's men, who rested six first-team regulars, were below-par despite Gareth Barry being given the captaincy in the absence of Martin Laursen.
Elsewhere, Blackburn Rovers booked their place in the next round of the cup with a 1-0 win over Everton at Ewood Park.
Left-back Martin Olsson scored the winner on ten minutes when he exchanged passes with debutant Robbie Fowler before slotting the ball home.
Goalkeeper Paul Robinson went off during the first-half due to injury and was replaced by Jason Brown.
Everton controversially had a goal disallowed when James Vaughan was adjudged to have fouled Brown before putting the ball in the net.
Elsewhere, Wigan Athletic defeated Ipswich Town 4-1 at Portman Road with all the goals coming in the second half.
Despite being outplayed for most of the game, the Latics took the lead on 52 minutes when Lee Cattermole bundled in a rebound after Wilson Palacios' free-kick had been saved.
Nine minutes later, the Tractor Boys scored a deserved equaliser when Jonathan Walters converted Alan Quinn's cross.
But Steve Bruce's side regained the lead three minutes later when Emile Heskey headed the ball down for Olivier Kapo to slot the ball in.
Wigan sealed victory on 70 minutes when Amr Zaki headed across the face of goal with Paul Scharner tapping in from close range. And the Premier League side sealed the rout in the 93rd minute when Daniel de Ridder's corner was knocked in by Henri Camara.
