Aston Villa have swapped Milan Baros for Lyon striker John Carew.
Carew, 27, has agreed a three-and-a-half year deal at Villa Park for an undisclosed fee while Baros joined Gerard Houllier's side earlier in the day.
The Czech hitman had been at the Midlands club for the last two years but has struggled for form, scoring just one league goal in 17 appearances this season.
Baros will be reunited with former Liverpool mentor Houllier at the Stade de Gerland, having turned down a move to Lyon while still on Merseyside in 2005.
The 25-year-old won the golden boot at Euro 2004 and these goalscoring exploits for the Czech national team prompted interest from clubs such as Valencia.
But he failed to convince Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez, who sold him to David O'Leary's Villa for £6.5 million.
And he experienced a similar reaction from new Villains manager Martin O'Neill, who placed youngster Gabriel Agbonlahor and Juan Pablo Angel above him in the striking pecking order.
