Aston Villa have made a £7 million bid for West Ham United captain Nigel Reo-Coker.
The England under 21 international handed in a transfer request to manager Alan Curbishley at the end of the season after enduring a difficult time at Upton Park.
And with the new season in focus already for the former Charlton boss, as he looks to herald in a new era under his leadership, Curbishley reportedly accepted the request and opened the player to offers.
It appears now that Villa manager Martin O'Neill is targeting Reo-Coker to anchor his midfield as he looks to build a youthful team capable of challenging for the European places next season.
Backed by the millions of new Villa Park owner Randy Lerner, O'Neill is determined to resurrect the fortunes of the Birmingham club, who have won the English league championship on seven different occasions since their first title in 1894.
Reo-Coker is also expected to be a target for Tottenham Hotspur manager Martin Jol. The 22-year-old's departure from east London is more likely to be imminent if Scott Parker is able to complete his move to the Hammers from current club Newcastle.
