Raymond van Barneveld hit his second World Championship nine dart leg on the way to beating Brendan Dolan 4-0 to move into round three.

Van Barneveld struggled throughout the match but at the start of the third set, he clicked into first gear to follow up the perfect leg he hit against Jelle Klaasen last year.

Van Barneveld said: "To hit a nine darter was wonderful and the crowd really showed their appreciation.

"But I know I will have a tough game against Kevin Painter in my next match and I will definitely have to improve my game."

The Dutchman took the opening set with out dropping a leg, but Dolan moved 2-0 ahead in the second set.

However, he reeled off three successive legs to win the set, and the next leg saw him make history.

Two successive 180's saw him leave 141, and he held his nerve to hit treble 20, treble 19 and double 12 to send the Alexandra Palace crowd wild.

He missed seven darts to win the next leg - which Dolan eventually won - but he continued his momentum to win the final five legs of the match to move into the last 16.

Elsewhere, the highly anticipated match between Ronnie Baxter and Gary Anderson turned out to be surprisingly one-sided as Baxter recorded a 97 average on the way to a 4-0 win.

The scoreline is slightly misleading with three of the four sets going the distance, but Baxter was well worth the win over a below-par Anderson, who was suffering with the flu.

The opening set went with throw, and Baxter sealed the set with a fantastic 142 checkout.

The world number seven then made Anderson pay for missed double attempts to take the second set, and a 180 helped Baxter take the deciding leg of the third set.

Anderson was always going to be up against it from then on, and despite the Scot taking a 2-1 lead in the fourth, Baxter scored big at crucial times to seal the win on double six.

Mark Webster showed the kind of determination which saw him crowned world champion, by coming back to defeat Peter Manley 4-2.

Manley quickly went into a 2-0 lead as Webster struggled to find his range on the doubles, but finishes of 80, 77 and 83 respectively saw him halve Manley's lead.

He then delivered a clinical spell of darts that saw him win six of the next seven legs to move 3-2 ahead.

At 2-1 up in the sixth set, Webster missed one dart to win the match and Manley duly levelled, but in the deciding leg of the set, it was Manley's turn to falter on the doubles as he missed six darts to make it 3-3, and Webster stepped up to hit double 12 to move on to play Kirk Shepherd in round three.

Shepherd gained revenge for his 2008 final defeat to John part by beating the Canadian 4-1.

Shepherd has failed to kick on from his 2008 heroics, but took advantage of a disappointingly out of sorts Part, who only averaged 76.

The opening two legs were shared before Shepherd broke throw to win the set.

Part took the second to level up the scores but he completely lost his range on the trebles to gift Shepherd the next two sets.

The Canadian looked a little more threatening in the fifth set, but Shepherd kept his composure to complete an emotional victory, but he will have to improve on his 79 average in the last 16.

Colin Lloyd opened the day's play with a thrilling 4-3 win over Denis Ovens.

Early in the match, Ovens was averaging 102 in what was arguably his best spell of darts on television, but countless missed doubles cost him and Lloyd was more decisive.

At two sets to one up, Ovens missed five darts to make it 3-1, and Lloyd made it 2-2.

Ovens faced a similar situation in the fifth set as he missed seven darts for the set, but this time Lloyd could not capitalise and Ovens moved one away from victory.

However, A nervous-looking Ovens could not get over the finish line and Lloyd won the final four legs to move into the last 16.

Kevin Painter booked his place in round three with a 4-3 win over Vincent Van Der Voort.

Painter had established an early 2-0 lead but the fast-throwing Dutchman hit back to make it 2-2.

The former finalist hit back with an 11 dart leg in the final game of the fifth set to go ahead once again, but Van Der Voort held his nerve to take the sixth.

Van Der Voort hit a stunning 12 dart leg with a 164 checkout to win the first leg of the final set, but Painter held firm to win three legs on the trot to set up a clash with Van Barneveld.
