Manchester United are anxiously awaiting news of an injury to defender Rio Ferdinand, who suffered a suspected broken rib against Arsenal last night.
The England centre-back was taken off a few minutes before the end of the 1-0 Champions League semi-final win, clutching his side after going up for a challenge with Gunners striker Nicklas Bendtner and his own goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar.
Ferdinand, who was replaced by youngster Jonny Evans, was immediately taken to hospital for scans amid fears he could have suffered a fracture.
"Rio got a crack right on the ribs and we hope there's nothing broken," United manager Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed after the game.
"If you get a rib injury, you could be out for two to three weeks maybe.
"We just have to wait for the [scan] results."
Either way, Ferdinand looks set to miss the Premier League match against Middlesbrough this Saturday lunchtime, with Evans set to deputise at centre-back alongside Nemanja Vidic.
