As number two seed Jelena Jankovic suffering a shock defeat to Tamarine Tanasugarn, the Williams sisters both moved a step closer to holding onto their Wimbledon dominance.

Defending champion Venus even managed to let a 5-1 second-set lead momentarily slip out of her hands to breeze through to the quarter-finals with a 6-3 6-4 win over Russian Alisa Kleybanova.

She will now meet the unseeded Thai Tanasugarn in the final eight.

At the same time, sister Serena also cruised to a straight sets victory, beating fellow American Bethanie Mattek 6-3 6-3 to set up a quarter-final tie with Agnieszka Radwanska after the Pole, who is seeded 14th, put out fourth seed Svetlana Kuznetsova.

While the pair look well on the way to booking their first final against each other since 2003, Venus has admitted that, as the number of second week upsets has already shown, nothing can be taken for granted in this year's competition.

"The reality is that every player is ready to play," she said after her win.

"Everyone comes out with double vengeance and you have to be ready. No match is a given - you have to go out there and work for it."

Between them, the sisters have won six of the last eight Wimbledon women's singles championships.
