Lee Westwood won the British Masters by five strokes after a sensational final round of 65 at the Belfry.

The 34-year-old surged clear of Ian Poulter after sinking a 30-foot putt on the 16th hole and a 35-foot putt to eagle the 17th.

Westwood carded a final round of seven-under to finish on 15-under and seal his 18th victory on the European Tour.

Englishman Poulter carded 70 to finish on ten-under, one stroke ahead of overnight leader Mark Foster.

Westwood began the day two strokes behind Foster but passed his Worksop club mate after seeing him drive out of bounds on the 11th.

Westwood said he was thrilled with his two monster putts on the 16th and 17th.

"Obviously, the 16th and 17th killed off anybody else's chances," Westwood said.

"I holed one like that on 16 against Tiger [Woods] in the Ryder Cup. The eagle then put the icing on the cake.

"It's a course I enjoy playing because of the Ryder Cup. The British Masters is a great title on the European Tour and it was one of those I was building up to. I haven't won in Britain for four years."

Colin Montgomerie finished on four under after carding a final-round of 74.

Northern Ireland rookie Rory McIlroy finished on two-over after going round in 73.
