Old Trafford suffered its second washout in as many days as the England v Australia Twenty20 international was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
Play was scheduled to begin at 19:00 BST but after severe rain overnight the umpires made the decision to call off the match at around 20:00 BST.
The decision left 25,000 spectators both disappointed and bemused as the sun was out and, to the naked eye, playing conditions looked to be of a reasonable condition.
But just one wet area of the pitch was enough to see the match cancelled.
A small boggy section about two metres from the popping crease at the Brian Statham end was deemed to be too dangerous for the bowlers.
Many spectators and commentators found the decision farcical and doubts now hang over the future of Old Trafford as an international cricket venue.
