Ferrari's Michael Schumacher has insisted that his title charge is still going full throttle despite Fernando Alonso's comprehensive win in the Spanish Grand Prix.
The current world champion became the first Spaniard to win his home grand prix as he finished 18.5 seconds ahead of the German at the Circuit de Catalunya.
However, Schumacher dismissed claims that the margin showed Alonso was out of reach and he was still confident of his title chances.
"You have to understand you cannot win every race as there are times when they are better than us," Schumacher said.
"It is a long year to go and we will keep fighting to try to win."
Alonso now sits 15 points ahead of Schumacher after six races, with the 37-year-old another 12 points ahead of third-placed Kimi Raikkonen of McLaren-Mercedes.
Schumacher had won the previous two races before the Spanish Grand Prix but the battle between Alonso and Schumacher is also seen as a battle between Michelin and Bridgestone.
In Spain, the Michelins seemed to work better and the Ferrari driver admitted that the Renaults had a better package over the weekend.
"You can only try so much, you have to rely on your package and it wasn't working out," Schumacher added.
"It is a long way to go until the end of the season and I am reasonably happy to lose only two points."
The Formula One circus moves onto Monte Carlo next, with the Monaco Grand Prix scheduled for May 28th.
