Christopher Samba will not be reuniting with old boss Mark Hughes at Manchester City, according to his agent.

New City boss Hughes is reportedly keen on signing the Blackburn Rovers defender for £4 million.

Hughes signed the 24-year-old from Hertha Berlin when he was manager at Ewood Park.

But Samba's agent, Leon Lambert, said his client is keen to stay in Lancashire.

"Chris has a five-year deal and he is very happy," said Lambert in the Daily Star Sunday.

"There have been some rumours, but at this moment I expect him to start the season there."

The Congo international, who joined Blackburn on a free transfer in 2007, was ever-present in central defence last season and helped the club finish seventh.

Samba's pledge is a boost to new Rovers manager Paul Ince who is facing a fight to keep his star players.

Winger David Bentley last month revealed he wants to leave the club in search of Champions League football while striker Roque Santa Cruz, who bagged 26 goals last season, has been linked with a move away from Rovers.

Ince will begin his reign away to Everton on August 16th, followed by a home match against new boys Hull City.
