Teenage starlet Laura Robson insisted she was "proud" of the way she performed on her Wimbledon debut, despite losing from a strong position.
The 15-year-old showed tremendous calm and skill as she took the first set against former world number five Daniela Hantuchova. Things got even better for Robson as she broke in the second set to take a 3-2 lead.
But Hantuchova then lifted her game and a number of double faults from Robson saw her broken twice as the Slovakian player took the second set 6-4 and then cruised through the third 6-2 to seal the win.
Robson though, who will defend her Wimbledon junior title next week, refused to get despondent and felt she would be back to play again in the main draw.
"I am proud of myself and the way the match went," she told BBC Sport. "I was a set and a break up against someone who was one place out of being seeded. It was just disappointing I couldn't close the match out in the end.
"The whole atmosphere was amazing on the new Court Two. Everyone was shouting 'we are so proud of you' and I was trying not to cry. I could have won and that's a really good sign for the future."
Hantuchova looked bewildered by the quality of some of the shots Robson was playing for much of the first set and a half and afterwards admitted that the British girl had a lot of "talent" and "potential".
