Harry Redknapp has signed a three-year contract to remain at Fratton Park after keeping Portsmouth in the Premiership.
Redknapp was public enemy number one on the south coast after he left Pompey to join their arch-rivals Southampton.
But when Pompey looked certain to be relegated at Christmas, after a poor performance by previous manager Alain Perrin, chairman Milan Mandaric called Harry back.
The fans were reluctant to welcome him home but by keeping the team in the league against the odds he has finally won most of them over.
Redknapp was given just a short-term deal at Fratton Park in December and it ran out at the end of the season. His excellent performance has now been rewarded with a new deal.
Pompey chief executive Peter Storrie said: "It is nice to get this matter sorted with Harry and now we can concentrate on moving the club forward and upwards to where it belongs.
"The ending of last season was just the beginning as far as everyone connected with the club is concerned and Harry is the man who will now take us on from here."
