Veteran cyclist Chris Hoy outclassed his Great Britain team-mate Jason Kenny to win the gold medal in the men's sprint event at the Laoshan velodrome.

Hoy, 12 years Kenny's senior, used all his experience as the two men played a game of cat and mouse before the first run.

The riders were both almost at a stand-still as neither wanted to make the first move.

But after Kenny broke first from distance and looked to hold off his rival, Hoy came from behind to pip Kenny by inches at the line.

In the second run, Hoy again came from the back as Kenny went for a similar approach and the veteran slipped past to cross the line narrowly ahead.

The gold is Hoy's third of the Games - making him the first Briton for 100 years to win three medals at the same Olympics.
