England skipper Andrew Flintoff has said his side can learn from their defeat to India in the first of the one day series between the two teams.
An inexperienced England side made all the running initially and found themselves well on course for victory after skittling India for just 203 and building a promising early total of 117-3.
However, a batting collapse beginning with the wickets of Flintoff and Kevin Pietersen heralded bitter defeat, as India triumphed by 39 runs.
Lancashire all-rounder Flintoff said the team were unhappy with the result but said they could take positives from the performance in the field.
"I thought the bowlers were magnificent. I was pleased with the job they did," he said.
The 28-year-old temporary captain added that the team would now go away and consider how they could improve their batting effort.
"We should have knocked the runs off - we were in a great position," he said
"Now we have to sit down, regroup and have a look at ourselves."
"It's a seven-match series. We underachieved today but there are six more games to go," he added.
