Sir Alex Ferguson says Ruud van Nistelrooy was left out of the team because of a "couple of issues" during the week leading up to the Charlton game, which Manchester United won 4-0 today.
Van Nistelrooy left the ground just hours before the game and Ferguson said he will be discussing the situation with the club's directors.
"There have been a couple of issues during the week that concerned me in terms of the spirit at the club. On such an important day, I just felt that Ruud should be left out.
"It's straightforward," he added. "We'll be discussing it with the club's directors tomorrow and Tuesday and that's it."
