A teenager convicted of murdering father-of-three Garry Newlove has had his appeal rejected.
Garry Newlove was kicked to death by a gang of youths after he confronted them over vandalism to his wife's car in August 2007.
Adam Swellings, who is now 20, had his appeal to quash or reduce his 17-year sentence rejected by the Court of Appeal.
Another teenager involved in the death of Mr Newlove, Stephen Sorton, 18, had his sentence reduced to 13 years from 15.
However, the judge emphasised that he would not be considered for release until the parole board no longer considered him a threat to the public.
A spokesman for the CPS said: "We were satisfied we followed the correct procedure in the use of bad character evidence at trial and therefore opposed Swellings' appeal against conviction.
"The court has decided to reject his appeal against conviction on these grounds. It has also decided to uphold the sentence imposed by the trial judge and we accept the judgement of the court."
Newlove Warrington, a campaign launched at the weekend by Mr Newlove's family, aims to improve the sense of community and opportunity across the town.
