Flooding last night blamed for three deaths
Torrential rains across the country last night led to the deaths of three people, including a 17-year-old girl.

In Wales, a 17-year-old girl died after the 4x4 she was travelling in overturned and fell into a river.

The girl and two other passengers were taken to hospital last night after the accident near the Llyn Brianne reservoir area of Powys at around 17:45 BST last night.

Inspector Robert Price, of Dyfed-Powys Police, said: "Three people were airlifted to Bronglais Hospital, Aberystwyth, two of them suffering from hypothermia.

"One casualty tragically died following arrival at the hospital."

Two people were also killed in Plymouth when their car hit a tree due to the heavy rain. Police named them as Becky Hoynes, of Ivybridge, Devon, and Barry Rowe, from Plymouth.

The Environment Agency has issued three severe flood warnings and 69 flood warnings as some parts of the country received half the average rainfall for September in one night.

The Meteorological Office has warned of more severe weather to come this weekend for Wales, the Midlands, northern Ireland, the north west and north east England.

Heavy rain is forecast for north-east England and south-west Scotland today.
