An explosion at a construction site for a new shopping development has shot flames and thick smoke into the air in Bath city centre.
Reports suggest a gas canister at the site caught fire and caused the explosion, but no one is thought to have been hurt.
A number of fire engines are attending the scene in an attempt to control the blaze, which has resulted in a large section around the Henry Street area of the city centre being closed off.
The nearby city train station, Bath Spa, has been closed as a precaution while emergency services assess the situation.
A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset police confirmed the fire response after officers received a call just after 17:00 BST.
"Several streets" around the Southgate building site had been cordoned off, the spokesperson added.
It remains unclear whether the incident is likely to delay the opening of the new £360 million development, which was originally scheduled to take place early next year.
